Apache WebServices Project: 12 June 2008 - Apache Rampart 1.4 Released

The Apache Rampart Team has released the version 1.4 of Apache Rampart

Apache Rampart 1.4 is a toolkit that provides implementations of the WS-Sec specifications for Apache Axis2 1.4, based on Apache WSS4J 1.5.4 and the Apache AXIOM-DOOM 1.2.7 implementations.

You can download the releases from: http://ws.apache.org/rampart/download/1.4/download.cgi

There are two main Apache Axis2 modules provided with this release.

rampart-1.4.mar -- This provides support for WS-Security and WS-SecureConversation features.

rahas-1.4.mar -- This module provides the necessary components to enable SecurityTokenService functionality on a service.

Apache Rampart 1.4 uses a configuration model based on WS-Policy and WS-Security Policy. It is important to note that the Apache Rampart 1.0 style configuration is also available even though being marked as deprecated.

Apache Rampart 1.4 can be successfully used with the next Apache Sandesha2 release targeted towards Apache Axis2 1.4 to configure WS-SecureConversation + WS-ReliableMessaging scenarios.

The rampart module was successfully tested for interoperability with other WS-Security implementations.

WS - Sec specifications supported by Apache Rampart are as follows:

WS - Security 1.0 / 1.1

WS - Secure Conversation - February 2005

WS - Security Policy - 1.1 - July 2005

WS - Security Policy - 1.2 - EXPERIMENTAL

WS - Trust - February 2005

WS - Trust - WS-SX spec - EXPERIMENTAL

New features in Apache Rampart 1.4

WS Security 1.1

Encrypted headers

Encrypted SHA1 references

WS Security Policy 1.2 support

WS Trust

Renew binding

Validation binding

New configuration options

Ability to plug in Custom policy validators

Ability to define certificate alias different from username for signature

Ability turn off mili second precision

Ability to secure SOAP faults

Increased interoparability with WCF 3.5

Thank you for using Apache Rampart.

Apache Cocoon Project: 16 May 2008 - Apache Cocoon 2.2.0 Released

The Apache Cocoon Community is proud to announce the release of Cocoon 2.2.0. Apache Cocoon is a Spring-based framework (since version 2.2 of Cocoon) built around the concepts of separation of concerns and component-based development. Cocoon implements these concepts around the notion of component pipelines, each component on the pipeline specializing on a particular operation. Cocoon 2.2 introduces the idea of blocks. A block is the unit of modularization in Cocoon, allowing the framework to be built upon. (in comparison: Eclipse uses the term plugins, OSGi uses bundles). Everything that goes beyond what Cocoon provides in its core modules (Spring integration, sitemap and pipeline implementation) is provided as block (see below). Custom Cocoon applications are also developed as blocks. A block can provide the following additional features: * general servlet services (any servlet can be managed by the Cocoon servlet-service framework), * special services that provide pipelines as services, * component services (Spring beans, Avalon services/components), * a container for classes and resources. A block is packaged as a Java archive (jar) following certain conventions concerning the directory structure. To read more information about the new features within Cocoon 2.2.0 please go to: http://cocoon.apache.org/2.2/1420_1_1.html. Alternatively for more information about Apache Cocoon 2.2, please go to, please go to http://cocoon.apache.org or follow our getting started guide at http://cocoon.apache.org/2.2/1159_1_1.html. The release artifacts are available from the central Maven repository (http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/) or you can download them from the distribution area (http://cocoon.apache.org/1284_1_1.html). - o - Additionally we are pround to announce some additional releases: SUBPROJECTS ----------- * Cocoon Servlet-Service Framework 1.0.0 The Servlet Service Famework makes it easy to use servlets as components which can communicate with each other. The current implementation is based on Spring 2.5. There are no dependencies on Cocoon core libraries at all. http://cocoon.apache.org/subprojects/servlet-service/1.0/ * Cocoon Configuration 1.0.2 The...

FOP (Formatting Objects Processor) is a print formatter driven by XSL Formatting Objects [1] and an output independent formatter. It is a Java application that reads a formatting object tree and renders the resulting pages to a specified output. Output formats currently supported include PDF, PS, PCL, AFP, Print and PNG.

This beta release will be available for testing for some time, before a stable release is made. Feedback is welcome, and we would like to encourage as many people as possible to try it out and report bugs and issues on the fop-users mailing list [2]. The most important changes introduced by this release are:

many bug fixes and improvements in tables, better support for keeps and breaks, new features: conditional borders and background on columns and header/footer/body;

better image handling thanks to the new image loading framework provided by the Apache XML Graphics Commons dependency;

improvements and bugfixes for font handling and font auto-detection/-registration;

performance improvements and memory optimizations for the property handling in the FO tree.

The Apache Cocoon Community is proud to announce the new release of Apache Cocoon.

Apache Cocoon is a web development framework built around the concept of separation of concerns (that is: allowing people to do their job without having to step on each other toes) and component-oriented web RAD.

The latest version is downloadable from http://cocoon.apache.org/mirror.cgi (Please use the mirrors to download the release - it might take a little bit more time until the latest release is available on all mirrors, so give the mirrors some time - approx. 24h to update.)

This release includes many bug fixes and smaller enhancements.

For more information about Apache Cocoon 2.1.10, please go to http://cocoon.apache.org.
Apache Cocoon Project: 08 November 2007 - Apache Cocoon 2.2 RC2 Now Available

The Apache Cocoon Community is proud to announce the second release candidate of Cocoon 2.2.

Apache Cocoon is a Spring-based framework (since version 2.2) built around the concepts of separation of concerns and component-based development.

Cocoon implements these concepts around the notion of component pipelines, each component on the pipeline specializing on a particular operation.

Cocoon 2.2 introduces blocks. A block is the unit of modularization in Cocoon (in comparison: Eclipse uses the term plugins, OSGi uses bundles). Everything that goes beyond what Cocoon provides in its core modules (Spring integration, sitemap and pipeline implementation) is provided as block (see below). Custom Cocoon applications are also developed as blocks. A block can provide the following features:

general servlet services (any servlet can be managed by the Cocoon servlet-service framework),

special services that provide pipelines as services,

component services (Spring beans, Avalon services/components),

a container for classes and resources.

A block is packaged as a Java archive (jar) following certain conventions concerning the directory structure.

Find information about the new features at http://cocoon.apache.org/2.2/1420_1_1.html.

For more information about Apache Cocoon 2.2, please go to http://cocoon.apache.org or follow our getting started guide at http://cocoon.apache.org/2.2/1159_1_1.html.

The release artifacts are available from the central Maven repository (http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/).

Apache XML Graphics Project: 24 August 2007 - Apache FOP 0.94 Released

The Apache XML Graphics team is pleased to announce the release of Apache FOP version 0.94.

FOP (Formatting Objects Processor) is a print formatter driven by XSL Formatting Objects [1] and an output independent formatter. It is a Java application that reads a formatting object tree and renders the resulting pages to a specified output. Output formats currently supported include PDF, PS, PCL, AFP, Print and PNG.

http://www.w3.org/TR/xsl11/

This is the second production-level release after the big re-design effort. It includes many bug fixes and new features, the most important being:

auto-detection of the fonts installed on the system; the XML metrics generation is now optional;

support for the collapsing-border model in tables;

internal links in PDF now point to the exact location, and not to the top of the page;

support for UAX#14 type line breaking. This annex of the Unicode standard specifies rules for breaking text into lines depending on the language used.

The complete list of changes is available at http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/0.94/changes_0.94.html

FOP 0.94 implements the XSL-FO 1.1 recommendation to a high degree of compliance. See the compliance page for a detailed overview: http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/compliance.html

Just over 4 months since the original 1.2 release, we are very proud to announce the release of Apache Axis2 version 1.3. Downloads are available at: http://ws.apache.org/axis2/download.cgi Apache Axis2 is a complete re-design and re-write of the widely used Apache Axis engine and is a more efficient, more scalable, more modular and more XML-oriented Web services framework. It is carefully designed to support the easy addition of plug-in "modules" that extend its functionality for features such as security and reliability. Modules supporting WS-Security/Secure-Conversation (Apache Rampart), WS-Trust (Apache Rahas), WS-Reliable Messaging (Apache Sandesha) and WS-Eventing (Apache Savan) will be available soon after the Apache Axis2 1.3 release. Please see these projects' own sites for further information. Major Changes Since 1.2: - Moved to maven2 from maven1 - Significantly improved documentation - Significantly improved support for POJO services and clients - Significantly improved Deployment module and custom deployers - Significantly improved support for Spring services - Significantly improved Axis Data Binding (ADB) to increase schema coverage and overall stability - Improved handler and module interfaces - Improved Eclipse and Idea plugins - Fixed tons of small and not-so-small bugs - Major code cleanup and improved exception handling - All the asynchronous MessageReceivers have been deprecated - Deprecating the introspection to find init()/destroy() methods on service classes. - Deprecated the Callback interface [http://wiki.apache.org/ws/FrontPage/Axis2/changesfrom1.2to1.3] - Added a new phase called "Addressing" and moved all the addressing handlers into that phase - Name of the wsdl2java generated Exception classes changed. Earlier it had the Exception suffix and from Axis2 1.3 it has been removed - Interface changed in ADB Datasource class - Classpath module loading support Known Issues and Limitations in 1.3 Release: - Java2WSDL and runtime WSDL generation only support doc-lit/bare and doc-lit/wrapped - Custom deployers only work in file system based repository. -...

The Apache Tuscany team is pleased to announce the 1.0-incubating release of the Java SDO project.

This project provides an implementation of the SDO 2.1 specification and this is our first release to provide full coverage of the specification. In addition to completing the few remaining SDO 2.1 features there are a number of new features relating to XML serialization, new support for handling dynamic derivation from static classes and improvement to the sample programs. For the full change history take a look at RELEASE NOTES

To download SDO Java or for more information about the release go to: http://incubator.apache.org/tuscany/sdo-java-releases.html

Apache Tuscany welcomes your help. Any contribution, including code, testing, improving the documentation, or bug reporting is always appreciated. For more information on how to get involved in Apache Tuscany visit the website at: http://incubator.apache.org/tuscany.

(Tuscany is an effort undergoing incubation at the Apache Software Foundation (ASF), sponsored by the Apache Web services PMC. Incubation is required of all newly accepted projects until a further review indicates that the infrastructure, communications, and decision making process have stabilized in a manner consistent with other successful ASF projects. While incubation status is not necessarily a reflection of the completeness or stability of the code, it does indicate that the project has yet to be fully endorsed by the ASF.)

Apache WebServices Project: 08 June 2007 - Apache Synapse 1.0 Released

The Apache Synapse team is pleased to announce the first full release of Apache Synapse with the 1.0 release. Apache Synapse is a simple and highly effective Web Services intermediary and SOA framework. It can be added to your existing network very simply either as a services gateway or as an HTTP proxy. Once Apache Synapse is mediating your service requests it can perform many functions including routing, load-balancing, transformation and protocol switching. Apache Synapse can be used to build an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) or Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Apache Synapse has been designed to support very fast XML routing with a streaming XML design based upon Apache Axiom. in addition, the use of a completely asynchronous architecture and non-blocking IO based on Java NIO ensures that Synapse has very low overhead and can scale to support thousands of concurrent clients without dropping messages. The main features of Synapse include: * Support for XML/HTTP, JMS, SOAP 1.1/1.2, WS-Addressing, MTOM binary attachments * Simple protocol switching between XML/HTTP (POX) and SOAP, JMS and HTTP * Built in support for XPath and Regex based routing, XSLT-based transformations * High-performance non-blocking HTTP and HTTPS support (based on Apache HttpCore) - millisecond-level routing - supports thousands of concurrent connections * Load-balancing, failover and throttling support * Support for advanced Web Services standards * WS-ReliableMessaging * WS-Security * WS-Policy * JMS support including text, binary, XML and SOAP/JMS * Logging and header-manipulation * Extensible via scripting languages including JavaScript, Groovy and Ruby - full support for native XML via E4X and REXML - Apache BSF support enables many scripting languages * Custom Java classes or Spring Framework assemblies allow Synapse to be extended * Extensibility model allows the core XML configuration language to be enhanced by plugin JARs * Support for timeouts, fault handling...

Apache WebServices Project: 02 June 2007 - Apache Rampart 1.2 Released

The Apache Rampart Development team would like to announce the release of the version 1.2 of Apache Rampart.

Apache Rampart 1.2 is a toolkit that provides implementations of the WS-Sec* specifications for Apache Axis2 1.2, based on Apache WSS4J 1.5.2 and the Apache AXIOM-DOOM 1.2.4 implementations.

There are two main Apache Axis2 modules provided with this release.

rampart-1.2.mar
This provides support for WS-Security and WS-SecureConversation features.

rahas-1.2.mar
This module provides the necessary components to enable SecurityTokenService functionality on a service.

Apache Rampart 1.2 uses a configuration model based on WS-Policy and WS-Security Policy and it is important to note that Apache Rampart 1.0 style configuration is also available even though being marked as deprecated.

Apache Rampart 1.2 can be successfully used with the next Apache Sandesha2 release targeted towards Apache Axis2 1.2 to configure WS-SecureConversation + WS-ReliableMessaging scenarios.

The rampart module was successfully tested for interoperability with other WS-Security implementations.

WS - Sec* specifications supported by Apache Rampart are as follows:

WS - Security 1.0

WS - Secure Conversation - February 2005

WS - Security Policy - 1.1 - July 2005

WS - Trust - February 2005

WS - Trust - WS-SX spec - EXPERIMENTAL

Thank you for using Apache Rampart.

Apache Forrest Project: 18 April 2007 - Apache Forrest 0.8 Released

The Apache Forrest Project is pleased to release the new version: apache-forrest-0.8 http://forrest.apache.org/mirrors.cgi

Apache Forrest is a publishing framework that transforms input from various sources into a unified presentation in one or more output formats. The modular and extensible plugin architecture is based on Apache Cocoon and relevant standards, which separates presentation from content. Apache Forrest can generate static documents, or be used as a dynamic server, or be deployed by its automated facility.

New features in this version include:

Locationmaps define the mapping from requests to locations, which enables content and resources to be located at various different sources. The advantage of this is that the URL seen by the user need bear no relation to the location of the source document, thus Forrest can separate the client URL space from the source document URL space. Thus, using the locationmap it is possible to pull together documents from many different locations into a single uniform site. In addition, since the user URL space is now unconnected to the source URL space it is possible to move source documents without breaking any existing user links.

Existing core plugins and sitemaps have been refactored to take advantage of locationmaps. Some core functionality has moved to plugins.

Prototype of new xml-based properties system. Projects and plugins can use a forrest.properties.xml file. At this stage, it supplements the existing forrest.properties file.

Some new documents to explain certain core aspects. Documentation menu navigation changed to provide clearer structure for Forrest project versioned product documentation grouped into howto and background sections. Better layout of the Developers tab into Getting Involved, Resources (mail lists, SVN, Issue Tracker) and Best Practices sections. See also the "linkmap" for an automated Table of Contents ability.

Apache WebServices Project: 06 April 2007 - Apache AXIOM (WebServices Commons) 1.2.3 Released

Apache AXIOM is a StAX-based, XML Infoset compliant object model which supports on-demand building of the object tree. It supports a novel "pull-through" model which allows one to turn off the tree building and directly access the underlying pull event stream. It also has built-in support for XML Optimized Packaging (XOP) and MTOM, the combination of which allows XML to carry binary data efficiently and in a transparent manner. The combination of these results in a easy to use API with a very high performant architecture

Initialy developed as part of Apache Axis2, Apache AXIOM (AXIs Object Model) is the core of Apache Axis2. However, it is a pure standalone XML Infoset model with novel features and can be used independently of Apache Axis2.

Please visit: http://ws.apache.org/commons/axiom/

Key Features

Full XML Infoset compliant XML object model

StAX based builders with on-demand building and pull-through

XOP/MTOM support offering direct binary support

Convenient SOAP Infoset API on top of AXIOM

Two implementations included:

Linked list based implementation

W3C DOM supporting implementation

High performant

What's New in This Release

This is release includes a set of bug fixes which are necessary for Axis2 release and improvements to file caching.

Apache XML Project: 30 March 2007 - Apache Batik 1.7 beta1 Now Available

The Apache Batik team is proud to announce the long-awaited release of Apache Batik version 1.7beta1, a Java-based toolkit for processing SVG.

This is the first release of Batik in approximately two years, and brings many new features and improvements over version 1.6. Notable new features include:

DOM Level 3 Core/Events/XPath support

Improved WMF transcoder support

Near complete SMIL Animation support

A few SVG 1.2 features, such as:

resource documents

shapechange and RenderedBBoxChange events

SVGGlobal startMouseCapture/stopMouseCapture methods

handler elements

Batik can be downloaded from here:

 http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/batik/download.cgi

For the full list of improvements and bug fixes over version 1.6, click on the "release change log" link from that page.

The reasoning behind having a beta release rather than a full release is that there has been a great deal of changes since version 1.6, and while we believe the code to be reasonably stable, it would be beneficial to get feedback from users on any bugs that may have been missed. We plan to have a full 1.7 release in a month or two.

If you find any problems, please file bug reports:

 http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/

Apache XML Graphics Project: 30 March 2007 - Apache Batik 1.7 beta1 Now Available

Apache WebServices Project: 10 January 2007 - Apache AXIOM (WebServices Commons) 1.2.2 Released

============

Full XML Infoset compliant XML object model

StAX based builders with on-demand building and pull-through

XOP/MTOM support offering direct binary support

Convenient SOAP Infoset API on top of AXIOM

Two implementations included:

Linked list based implementation

W3C DOM supporting implementation

High performant

What's New in This Release
==========================

This is release includes few bug fixes, specially following issues.

WSCOMMONS-144 : Axiom having problem when serializing name spaces with null nameSpaceUri.

Apache WebServices Project: 10 January 2007 - Apache Axis2 1.1.1 Released

Its been over a month since the 1.1 release of Apache Axis2 and we are happy to announce the release of Apache Axis2 version 1.1.1.

The download is available at: http://ws.apache.org/axis2/download.cgi

Apache Axis2 is a complete re-design and re-write of the widely used Apache Axis engine and is a more efficient, more scalable, more modular and more XML-oriented Web services framework. It is carefully designed to support the easy addition of plug-in "modules" that extends its functionality for features such as security and reliability.

Modules supporting WS-Security/Secure-Conversation (Apache Rampart), WS-Trust (Apache Rahas), WS-Reliable Messaging (Apache Sandesha2) are already avaialable. Modules supporting WS-Eventing (Apache Savan) & WS-Transactions (Apache Kandula2) will be available soon after the Apache Axis2 1.1.1 release. Please see these projects' own sites for further information.

Major changes since 1.1:

Performance improvements

Bug fixes

Known issues and limitations in 1.1.1 release:

ADB does not support unwrapping of response messages(coming in 1.2)

JSR 181/183 Annotation support (coming in 1.2)

JaxMe and JAXBRI data binding support is experimental

Simple Axis Server does not support POX/REST

RPC Message Receiver does not validate request against the schema (AXIS2-1943)

Axis2 Idea plugin shows random behavior when XMLBeans is used

Apache Axis2 1.1.1 is a bug fix release of Axis2's 1.1 version, which was a major release since Axis2 1.0. We are striving for a simple and happy first time user experience as well as satisfying advanced users.

We welcome any and all feedback:

axis-user@ws.apache.org (please include "[axis2]" in the subject)

axis-dev@ws.apache.org (please include "[axis2]" in the subject)

http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AXIS2

Thank you for your interest in Apache Axis2

Apache XML Graphics Project: 08 January 2007 - Apache FOP 0.93 Released

The Apache FOP team is proud to announce the release of Apache FOP version 0.93.

The new codebase for FOP was started several years ago in order to achieve better compliance with the XSL-FO spec. After three alpha and beta releases, the new codebase has now reached production quality. Therefore we present version 0.93 as the successor of version 0.20.5, FOP's production grade version during the past years.

FOP 0.93 contains the new API first introduced in release 0.92 beta. The preceding API has been removed.

FOP 0.93 again contains many bug fixes and new features. See below for details.

Compliance
------------

FOP 0.93 implements the XSL 1.0 and 1.1 recommendations to a high degree of compliance. See the compliance page http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/compliance.html for a detailed overview.

Known issues
------------

The known issues of FOP 0.93 are listed at http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/knownissues.html.

Upgrading
---------

You will experience different behaviour compared to version 0.20.5. Please consult the "Upgrading" page (http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/stable/upgrading.html) for details.

Major Changes in Version 0.93
-----------------------------

Added support for the use of Open Type fonts.

Support for the rgb-icc() function and for a proprietary cmyk() function (for device CMYK colors only through the PDF renderer so far).

Enabled Copy/Paste from PDF content in Acrobat Reader for text using embedded TrueType fonts.

Added support for PDF/A-1b and PDF/X-3:2003. (Note: this may still be a bit incomplete.)

The Java2DRenderer (and therefore the print and bitmap renderers) is now offering the same quality as the PDF and PS renderers.

Automatic support for all fonts available to the Java2D subsystem for all Java2D-descendant renderers (TIFF, PNG, print, AWT).

The long list of changes in this release is available at http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/0.93/changes_0.93.html.

The long list of changes in this and earlier releases is available at http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/changes.html.

The Apache FOP team asks you for your continued feedback on the software. We're also interested in success stories with the new release. So if the latest version works fine for you, please tell us. And if it doesn't, you may tell us as well, of course.

Release notes for older FOP versions can be found on: http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/relnotes.html

Apache XML Project: 23 December 2006 - Apache XMLGraphics Commons 1.1 released

The Apache XMLGraphics team (PMC) members are pleased to announce the new release of Apache XML Graphics Commons.

Apache XML Graphics Commons is a library that consists of several reusable components used by Apache Batik and Apache FOP. Many of these components can easily be used separately outside the domains of SVG and XSL-FO. You will find components such as a PDF library, an RTF library, Graphics2D implementations that let you generate PDF and PostScript files, and much more.

Important changes are:

A start was made of an XMP metadata framework.

ImageWriter abstraction supports writing multi-page formats like TIFF.

See http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/commons/changes.html for the detailed list of changes.

Source and binary distributions can be downloaded from the corresponding directories in an Apache Software Foundation mirror at:
http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.cgi/xmlgraphics/commons.

Apache Cocoon Project: 22 December 2006 - Apache Cocoon 2.1.10 Released

The Apache Cocoon Community is proud to announce the new release of Apache Cocoon.

Apache Cocoon is a web development framework built around the concept of separation of concerns (that is: allowing people to do their job without having to step on each other toes) and component-oriented web RAD.

The latest version is downloadable from http://cocoon.apache.org/mirror.cgi (Please use the mirrors to download the release - it might take a little bit more time until the latest release is available on all mirrors, so give the mirrors some time - approx. 24h to update.)

This release includes many bug fixes and smaller enhancements.

For more information about Apache Cocoon 2.1.10, please go to http://cocoon.apache.org/. You'll find the whole list of changes at http://cocoon.apache.org/2.1/changes.html.

Apache WebServices Project: 11 December 2006 - Apache Rampart 1.1 Released

Apache Rampart team is happy to announce the 1.1 release of Apache Rampart

You can download the releases from:

http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.cgi/ws/rampart/1_1

Apache Rampart 1.1 is a toolkit that provides implementations of the WS-Sec* specifications for Apache Axis2 1.1, based on Apache WSS4J 1.5.1 and the Apache AXIOM-DOOM 1.2.1 implementation.

What is in this release

There are two main Apache Axis2 modules provided with this release.

rampart-1.1.mar -- This provides support for WS-Security and WS-SecureConversation features.

rahas-1.1.mar -- This module provides the necessary components to enableSecurityTokenService functionality on a service.

Apache Rampart 1.1 introduces a new configuration model based on WS-Policy and WS-Security Policy and it is important to note that Apache Rampart 1.0 style configuration is now deprecated and will not be available in next major version.

Apache Rampart 1.1 can be successfully used with the next Apache Sandesha2 release targeted towards Apache Axis2 1.1 to configure WS-SecureConversation + WS-ReliableMessaging scenarios.

Apache Xerces Project: 23 November 2006 - Apache Xerces-J 2.9.0 released

The Apache Xerces-J team is pleased to announce that version 2.9.0 of Xerces-J is now available. As of this release, Xerces' distribution includes the Xalan serializer. Xerces and Xalan now share a common serialization codebase. The DOM Level 3 serialization support which was in Xerces was migrated into the Xalan serializer and Xerces' native serializer was deprecated. You can find details on the rationale for this change here in the archives. In this release we also upgraded the xml-commons resolver to v1.2 (which provides support for OASIS XML Catalogs v1.1), introduced a few minor features and fixed several bugs.

Specifically, the changes introduced in this release are:

Migrated the DOM Level 3 serialization support onto a common serialization codebase shared with Xalan and deprecated Xerces' native serializer. [Neil Delima, Michael Glavassevich]

Upgraded the xml-commons resolver to v1.2. This new version of the resolver adds support for OASIS XML Catalogs v1.1. [Michael Glavassevich]

Created a new parser configuration which uses a memory sensitive SymbolTable which can handle usage scenarios where the names in the XML documents being parsed are mostly unique. The internalized strings stored in this SymbolTable are softly reachable and may be cleared by the garbage collector in response to memory demand. [Peter McCracken]

Updated the schema loader so that it can now process schema documents with an XML 1.1 declaration. [Michael Glavassevich]

Fixed several bugs in the checking of schema type restrictions that involve substitution groups. [Lucian Holland, Ignacio Hernandez-Ros]

Fixed a bug in Xerces' regular expression support where patterns containing "$" and "^" were being interpreted as anchors in a schema context. [Chris Carman]

Fixed a bug in the XPath matcher for identity constraints which allowed steps containing NCName:* to select element or attribute names which do not match the specified namespace. [Michael Glavassevich]

Fixed a bug in the XPath parser for identity constraints which caused field and selector XPaths containing the non-abbreviated form of the child and attribute axes to be reported as invalid. [Michael Glavassevich]

Fixed a bug which allowed the JAXP SchemaFactory to mutate a user supplied DOM input. [Michael Glavassevich]

Fixed a bug which caused the JAXP 1.2 method for schema validation to produce DTD validation errors when XInclude processing is enabled. [Michael Glavassevich]

Fixed various bugs and made various improvements. [Nathan Beyer, George Cristian Bina, Michael Glavassevich, Jacob Kjome, Grant McDonald]

Apache Axis2 is a complete re-design and re-write of the widely used Apache Axis engine and is a more efficient, more scalable, more modular and more XML-oriented Web services framework. It is carefully designed to support the easy addition of plug-in "modules" that extend its functionality for features such as security and reliability.

Modules supporting WS-Security/Secure-Conversation (Apache Rampart), WS-Trust (Apache Rahas), WS-Reliable Messaging (Apache Sandesha) and WS-Eventing (Apache Savan) will be available soon after the Apache Axis2 1.1 release. Please see these projects' own sites for further information.

Major Changes Since 1.0:

Significantly improved documentation

Significantly improved support for POJO services and clients

Significantly improved support for Spring services

Significantly improved Axis Data Binding (ADB) to increase schema coverage and overall stability

Improved service lifecycle model

Improved JMS support

Improved handler and module interfaces

Improved Eclipse and Idea plugins

New Attachments API for sending & receiving MTOM and SwA attachments

Built in support for WS-Policy via Apache Neethi

Added support for unwrapping Web service requests

Fixed tons of small and not-so-small bugs

Major refactoring of release structure to make usage easy

Known Issues and Limitations in 1.1 Release:

Unwrapping of response messages (coming in 1.2)

JSR 181/183 Annotation support (coming in 1.2)

JaxMe and JAXBRI data binding support is experimental

Simple Axis Server does not support POX/REST

Apache Axis2 1.1 is a major new release compared to Axis2 1.0. We are striving for a simple and happy first time user experience as well as a satisfying experienced user experience with this release. We welcome any and all feedback at:

axis-user@ws.apache.org (please include "[axis2]" in the subject)

axis-dev@ws.apache.org (please include "[axis2]" in the subject)

http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AXIS2

Apache WebServices Project: 14 November 2006 - Apache AXIOM (WebServices Commons) 1.2 Released

We, the Apache AXIOM development team (Under the Apache WebServices Commons Subproject) members, are proud to announce the release of Version 1.2 of Apache AXIOM. (Download : http://ws.apache.org/commons/axiom/download.cgi )

The combination of these results in a easy to use API with a very high performant architecture!

Key Features

Full XML Infoset com
